Scottish castle estate

Home Farm

As principle contractor on a £20m upgrade of a prominent Highland estate, Kishorn Heritage delivered new home farm buildings. Central to the project were three new traditional barn structures. We constructed the east, west and south barns using traditional arched oak frames, Lazonby saddle stones, hand-made bricks and linings made from Douglas Fir, felled and milled on the estate. Granite setts reclaimed from the historic streets of Edinburgh were used for the barn floors.

The design of the new barns and estate maintenance office was influenced by the traditional stone, larch-clad structures with corrugated roofs which are spotted throughout the Highlands. The resulting buildings sit perfectly in their surroundings. This attention to detail continues inside where offices, kitchens and drying rooms are finished with oak furniture made by a cabinet maker located just across the loch.
